INTRODUCTION
Several years ago I was asked to serve
on the Board of Directors of Hope Pregnancy Center in Broward
County, Florida. I had been pro-life ever since I could remember,
but when I served on the Board, my real education about this issue
began. When I learned that each year there were more abortions in
Miami-Dade County than there were live births, it broke my heart.
Broward County, just to the north was the number two county in
Florida for abortions. How could this be?
Many of you have probably seen the question posed
somewhere: “Why hasn’t God sent someone with a cure for Aids or
Cancer?” Perhaps God’s answer might be: “I did send someone, but you
aborted them.” We don’t know how many Einsteins, Abraham Lincolns,
George Washingtons, Michangelos, Dwight Moodys, or other persons of
inestimable value that God has sent to earth, but in our love affair
with choice and convenience, we have aborted them.
The Bible tells us that God has a plan for each and
every life. Have no doubt about it, from the moment the child is
conceived everything about it is determined – the color of its eyes
and hair, its sex, - virtually everything is present that will
appear in the full-term child! All that has to happen is for time to
pass and for growth to occur. God had a plan for that child even
BEFORE it was created in its mother’s womb. (Psalms 139:16)
With the invention of the Ultrasound Machine, the
myth that the fetus is only a blob of tissue or a clump of cells has
been exposed for the lie that it is. Women are able to see into the
“window of the womb” and recognize that it is a child. Many
pregnancy centers across the country are now offering free
ultrasounds to clients to bring home the truth that it’s a child –
not a choice!
The battle for life is a battle that is fought in
the spiritual realm. The warriors are those who serve as staff
members and volunteers at pregnancy centers all over our nation.
They fight the battle in the privacy of the counseling room, one
life at a time. They see God at work in extraordinary ways.
I have heard the stories for years and I have been
overwhelmed with the idea that they must be told – told over and
over again until people understand how precious every life is. That
is why this book is being written. I want to tell the stories of
hope…the hope and the future that God promises to every life.
(Jeremiah 29:11)
This book tells a story of a woman who was raped
yet carried the child and placed him for adoption, and he became an
answer to one family’s prayers for a child. It tells stories of many
women and men who chose to carry their children to term when the
truth was shared with them in the loving and safe environment of a
pregnancy care center. The stories in this book tell of young people
who are choosing abstinence until marriage in a society that
promotes promiscuity. It tells the never-ending story of God’s
grace, His healing and reconciliation. It tells other stories of
people whose lives have forever been changed for the better by a
visit to a pregnancy care center.
The names in most of these stories have been
changed to guard client confidentiality. The stories are all true
and are used with permission.
This book has been done primarily in conjunction
with Hope Pregnancy Care Centers, Inc. located in Broward County,
Florida. It is a labor of love for the women and men who find
themselves in unplanned pregnancies and for the unborn children they
carry. It is my desire that your heart will be touched by these
stories; and that you, too, might get involved in a pregnancy care
center where you live and see the extravagant lengths that God goes
to in order to protect the lives of these precious ones.
It has been said that all we need for evil to
triumph is for good people to do nothing. Abortion is an evil that
has been present with us far too long. More than 50 million lives
have been lost, just since the legalization of this practice in the
United States in 1973. Weep for all that we have lost, but praise
God that He is a forgiving and gracious Father who forgives us of
ALL our sins when we ask. Even abortion.
