She was a college student, still living at home with her parents and had never given them any trouble. She went to church every Sunday and her mom and dad had no idea she was sexually active.

Before we gave her the pregnancy test, we talked. We talked about her relationship with her boyfriend; we talked about her plans for the future. We talked about the disappointments that her parents would feel if they knew the whole truth about her life. We talked about the differences between attending church and having a personal relationship with the living God. By her own admission, she did not know Jesus. We talked about the baby who was born in a manger at Christmas time and how He grew up to be the Savior of the world.

As this young woman and the counselor talked more, she indicated that she was unsure of her eternal destiny and wanted to be certain of her relationship to God. After the gospel was shared, she prayed and asked Jesus to forgive her sins and take control of her life. A new life was born that day! She discovered that she served a God who specialized in second chances.

The pregnancy test was negative, and we talked about lifestyle changes that would keep her from having to face the fear of an unplanned pregnancy again. She understood the risks of premarital sex, and said she wanted to live a life that would be pleasing to God.

Two weeks later she returned for a retest [which was also negative], and she talked with us about some of the big decisions she was making in her life. She had broken up with the boyfriend and was developing a closer relationship with the Lord. She said she felt His spirit drawing her and knew that she wanted to grow and mature in her faith. She also shared that her relationship with her parents was improving, and that she was doing better in school, now that she could focus on her future.

Sometimes God uses us to save the life of the child in the womb. Sometimes He uses us to save the life of the child in the world.
